Truckee
A base camp for a big life
The town of Truckee looks like a charming holiday scene almost year round, so it is no surprise residents and businesses go big with decorating in the holiday season. While the entirety of Donner Pass Road is beautifully lit throughout Christmas, downtown’s Truckee Christmas lights really shine. At the end of November each year, the Truckee Downtown Merchants Association and Truckee Rotary put on the Bud Fish Tree Lighting Ceremony. Trees are decorated by hundreds of students. Santa stops by for the evening, with hot cocoa, music, and photos.
The evening culminates with the lighting of a truly majestic 60 foot tall tree right downtown. Check the Truckee Chamber’s Event Calendar for this year’s date.
Missed the big downtown Christmas lighting party? No problem, Santa returns to the Truckee Airport every year in mid December. He gives Rudolf and the other reindeer a break, and arrives in a nifty plane with Mrs. Claus! With carolers, cookies, cocoa, and special gifts from our local elves over at the makers space next door, this is a great event for kids! Check the news page for this year’s information. There’s also always Christmas Lights out at Northstar with their 4 week long Noel Nights celebration. The ice rink is the focal point of the fun with sleigh rides, Santa, and skating. Be sure to bring some canned food for the community food drive as well.
